Ghana’s Minister of Energy meets Upwind representatives on 225 MW wind farm Ayitepa
Ghana’s Energy and Petroleum Minister, Hon. Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has met with representatives of Upwind International, Mainstream Renewable Power and NEK Umwelttechnik from Switzerland, to discuss the wind farm project at Ayitepa and the country’s energy policy.
Eddie O’Connor, CEO of Mainstream, was delighted and honoured to meet the Minister of Energy stating that they agreed to work together to successfully deliver the 225 MW wind farm by 2016. He further described the wind farm Ayitepa as the ideal solution for Ghana, because wind and solar power are the only proven technologies which can achieve the dual objectives of speed of deployment, commissioning and scale.
Simon Genther, representative of NEK and Upwind, commented that the first phase of the wind farm Ayitepa should be fully permitted by first half of 2015 in order to start construction towards the end of the coming year.
Hon. Minister was accompanied by Mr. Wisdom-Ahiataku-Togobo and Ing. Stephen Doku, directors of Renewable Energy and Power at the Ministry, while the NEK / Upwind group included Simon Genther, Moses Duphey and Michael Wuddah-Martey, country manager of NEK (Ghana) Ltd.
Upwind announced in September this year it had signed a deal with Irish wind and solar company Mainstream Renewable Power to sell the 225 MW Ayitepa Wind Farm Project once it will have granted all required permits for construction and operation.
